Survey of Jazz and American Popular Music

Special Topics in Popular Music: History of Rock, University of South Carolina Sumter (2019-Present)

Survey of Rock and American Popular Music, delivered fully in person, hybrid remote, and fully remote and with both full semester and condensed schedule as needed

History of the Broadway Musical, University of South Carolina (2018)

Proposed and designed a Survey of the Broadway Musical, with emphasis on historical and cultural context as well as social impact. Students complete short viewing/writing assignments and three major reports on live performances

Class Voice, University of South Carolina (2014-2016), Claflin University (2016)

Developed a syllabus with the goal of building both basic singing skills and a basic understanding of voice structure and function. Students were required to complete weekly short listening and writing assignments as well as prepare solo performances for the class

Applied Voice, Coker University (2019-2021), Claflin University (2015-2016)

Teach individualized voice lessons to music minors, non-majors, and community members

 

Primary and Secondary Courses
9th Grade General Music, Lycee Rochambeau (2007-2014)

Provided 9th grade students with an overview of western music history. Students completed listening journals and performed their own compositions at an end-of-year concert featuring 20th century composition techniques

8th Grade General Music, Lycee Rochambeau (2007-2014)

Survey of non-western music for 8th grade students. Students learned basic drum techniques

7th Grade General Music, Lycee Rochambeau (2013-2014) 

7th grade students learned basics of music literacy and recorder technique

Primary General Music, Lycee Rochambeau (2007-2014)

Taught basic music literacy and vocal technique to Kindergarten, 1st, 2nd, and 4th grade students.  All students participated in end-of-year grade-level recitals featuring choral singing, instrumental performances, and listening/movement presentations
